Your Mission Briefing
Every great engineer knows their equipment inside & out. Before you write a single line of code, before you hack anything, before you build your first Minecraft mod — you need to understand the machine you're working on. Today, we crack open a computer & look at every part like an engineer would.
The 7 Core Components
Think of a computer like a military operation. Every unit has a job. Remove one, & the whole mission fails.
How Data Flows — The Engineer's View
Here's how these parts work together when you open Minecraft:
RAM vs Storage — The Backpack Analogy
Here's the easiest way to remember the difference between RAM & Storage:
Storage = Your bedroom. Everything you own is in there. Your games, your music, your videos. But you can't play with everything in your room at the same time.
RAM = Your backpack. You grab what you need for the day & put it in your backpack. Your computer grabs what it needs & puts it in RAM. When you turn off your computer, the backpack gets emptied — but your room stays full.
Binary — The Language of Hardware
Here's something wild: your CPU only understands two things. ON & OFF. Represented as 1 & 0. That's it. Every video game, every website, every AI system — all of it is just billions of 1s & 0s happening incredibly fast.
The letter "A" in binary is 01000001. Eight switches. On, off, off, off, off, off, off, on. That's how your computer reads everything.
